In this episode, I get to catch up with my friend and shamanic practitioner, Jason Lindell. Not only has Jason been one of the most engaged and active Brave Bears in our community, but I was also especially thrilled to feature him because of his unique transformation story.
“Just a guy,” he calls himself.
I call him a modern-day Yoda, in our conversation. And, if you listen to the end, you’ll pick up enlightening information about shamanic healing, soul retrieval, the core principles of Shamanism, and much more about Jason’s take on American mysticism.
Episode Quotables:
“Everybody has the [intuitive] ability. How far you get depends on how much you are willing to put in and how much is natural bent in talent.” – Jason Lindell
“The middle realm isn’t just what we experience in this reality; it’s all time and all space.” – Jason Lindell
“I’m a glass artist for a living, and I go into nonordinary reality and pull up designs and patterns to express the spirituality of the landscape and the prairie because that’s where I live.” – Jason Lindell
“I’ve heard art explained as ‘art is the filter through which a screen becomes beautiful.’ It’s that filter that you perceive life through. That’s life passing through me. Becoming something else solid. Some people do it in other ways–whether it be cooking or painting or whatever it is. It’s still the same basic principle.” – Jason Lindell
“We’re individually made. By finding those things out about yourself, you’re going to find out more about your own path.” – Jason Lindell

THE THREE REALMS
From the shamanic point of view, there are three realms we live in: the upper realm, the middle realm, and the lower realm.
We live in the middle realm–it isn’t just what we experience in this reality, it’s all time and all space.
Then, there is the lower realm, which in no way is evil or hell or punishment. Imagine it as the roots and foundations of the reality that we live in today.
Finally, there’s an upper realm. The upper realm is much more ethereal; it’s much more light. It’s much more where we’re heading and the intentions of the most high being projected into this middle realm.
Spirits inhabit all of these realms. Using shamanic practice, or the classic shamanic journey, you willfully enter these realms and work with spirits intentionally. Shamanically, we call it nonordinary reality. It’s a real place; it’s just not the ordinary space that you spend most of your day in.
WHAT IS SHAMANIC HEALING?
The traditional definition of a shaman is “a healer of the living and the dead.” On the living end of it, from a shamanic perspective, the soul is made out of veils. Imagine a Kleenex box: it keeps on popping up a bunch of veils that are very thin but all integrated together. As we go through a traumatic experience–and that can be defined differently by different people–pieces of the soul will shed off these veils to help us survive. For example, if you’ve heard of people in a car accident who don’t remember anything ten minutes before the crash occurred, that is a classic sign of soul loss. But soul loss doesn’t have to be that tragic.
WHY SEEK OUT A SHAMANIC HEALER?
There are many reasons to see a shamanic healer: physical ailments, money issues, personal or emotional issues.
HOW A SHAMANIC HEALING SESSION WORKS
- The shamanic practitioner will start the session by having a conversation with the client about the issue.
- He will then enter into nonordinary reality to consult the spirits who reside in the upper, middle and lower realms. The spirits will guide the practitioner to what needs to be seen or heard or told or changed as it relates to the client issue.
- The practitioner will then discuss with the client whether a soul retrieval, an animal retrieval, a vision retrieval, or some other spiritual healing is recommended.
- Finally, the client can either accept or decline the recommendation. If the client agrees, the practitioner will reenter into nonordinary reality to do as prescribed.
- After the session, the client is advised against making any big decisions for two weeks, and to listen and pay attention as they will need time to heal.
